In the rush to dampen expectations following an English junior US open victory, one journo in The Times looks at the real qualities needed to be a courtside superstar. He quoted ‘Mac’. On his most important quality of a champion;

“I would have to say desire, hanging in there and winning matches when you’re not playing well”

He added the recollection of his long-time doubles partner, Peter Fleming. He remembered such utterances as;

“I just cannot lose to this guy”

When due to face someone just outside the Top 50, and his approach was to make sure he pushed his opponent into the ground.
