A-List Stylist Mood Board Tip
The world of stylist Jamie Mizrahi is one in which few roam. Creating red carpet looks for Oscar winning actresses like Jennifer Lawrence and superstar singers like Adele.
Making me happy to learn of her central visual building block;
“I always think it’s good to put together a mood board of other people’s style. Look at people you admire then figure out ways you can integrate their style into your own wardrobe. If you really look at what you have you’ll probably find you don’t need to buy a whole new wardrobe to achieve this.”
As you may know, I'm a fan of precisely these types of creations. In this case, her mood board gathers inspiration from those she works with, changes seasonally, and features plenty of understated style iconography.
One image online as embedded up-top comes from around 2020. You don't need a close-up to sense how she likes to display idea sparks.
I also like how her main mood board appears to be the back of a door.
Admirin' too that designer touch of the framing black tape border.
We surely have such space somewhere which we can demarc the same way.
I note how neatly and structurally she sets our her future thought ignitions.
How the most common sized image is postcard-esque.
This type of inspo wall needn't be purely brand designated either.
Regardless of whether you have a centrally mandated palette and expression set out, the way others project themselves and their stance can also be something we'd wish to launch from at some stage too.
You could also turn your gaze inward.
I myself have searched for stand-out slides around a salesteam, and arranged enlarged printouts on a wall, to reinforce winning directions and best-practice ripe for replication or remix.
In searching on her work, I found a more recent side project where she redecorates a family playroom. With a fuller account too.
I spy the corner given over to that pair of desks. What's good for an all-purpose family room isn't necessarily good for the work-from-homer. Would we waste those windows? Could family harmony withstand a slightly less wide bookcasing around the telly or moving sofa inwards a touch for the sake of the greater productivity having a long desk against that windowed wall would bring!
