Ability v Will

Spent an enjoyable evening in the company of Jameson’s and a friend that has been a little disturbingly obsessing about America lately.  Mind you, after half-an-hour hearing about WW2 General Paton’s tactics and outlook on life, I was raring to storm enemy lines myself.

His current mantra is apparently one capturing Washington’s imagination.  It seems we won’t survive the economic meltdown because of ability, but due to will.

On reflection, I think it’s quite a snappy concept.  Most people, salespeople especially, think of themselves as legends in their own lunchtime, and there’s a special ability locked away inside all of us.  But can that alone predicate success?  Well, not really.  You do have that nagging feeling that those who succeed, instead demonstrate a superior capacity in the will department.
