Facebook's Defining Hire Question And Your Sales Career

Facebook broke the internet again this week. Rather than by a cat snap, it was from a reveal of their “global head of recruiting”.

Her candour shared their key interview question, now unsurprisingly widely re-reported;

“On your very best day at work — the day you come home and think you have the best job in the world — what did you do that day?”

A “correct” answer appears to disclose your true passion, purpose and pride (without you explicitly pushing such), demonstrate how perfect a fit you are to propel their core ‘grow connection’ mission, and show if you’re (ineligibly) self-focused.

There has long been a forerunner of this poser in Sales interviews.

Roughly along the lines of this stem;

What’s been your best ever deal (and why)?

With several extras addable. Again, designed to show the real mettle and mantras of candidates.

Having asked this myself, I am astounded how troublesome it can prove.

If you’re job-seeking, make sure you think about. If you’re job-filling, make sure you ask it.
