Hollywood Star Sees Talents Lead Dreams

Regular readers will know my systems > goals selling spine.

Actress Reese Witherspoon just went viral with the short clip above of career advice.

Labelled, "Everyone has dreams. Find your talents and chase those. πŸ’•", here's transcription by AI bot;

"I just got off the phone with a young woman who is looking for career advice. And she wants to switch careers, and she's like, 'I really want to be an actress.' And I was like, 'Well, do you have any talent in that area?' And she was like, 'No, but I really want to do it.' And I was like… you chase your talents. Everybody has dreams. Doesn't mean you're going to be that thing. You are supposed to do what you're talented at. So find out what you're good at and chase that."

An interesting slant on how optimal performance results when you put process before outcomes. Her bedrock is 'chase your talents, not just your dreams'.

In her sense, there's a recalibration brewing. A sanity check for how feasible your supposed dreams really are.

She tallies with the whole strengths-based movement. For us, that'd be finding what makes our bid (uniquely) succeed, then keep doing them. And refining them.

I note too overlap with Drucker (as is so often). That it's the conscious building on strengths that leads to accomplishment. That rings true for our selling. Especially when heeding his warning that we can easily misinterpret both a strength and its relative impact.

Do those talents you posses (or could develop) permit pursuit then achievement of said initial conjured dream?

With our Sales endeavour, a similar equation flows.

Take our preferred outcome of winning the deal. Not just one, but plenty. Over and over. In an understood, sustainable, repeatable way.

Our goal isn't quite so interchangeable. But it is more concrete. So we must ask ourselves the key question too;

Does our process get us to such place?
