Look At The Stars, Not At Your Feet

Such a loss.

Today’s airwaves in England are non-stop Stephen Hawking.

Quite right.

Among the tears and laughter of reminisces are his innumerous wonderful quotes.

Here’s the one I heard played back most often in the immediate hours after the announcement of his passing.

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet.
Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist.
Be curious.
And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at.
It matters that you don’t just give up.”

As one child asked their parent, ‘so who’s the smartest person in the world now?’

I’m not really one for the mostly correctly much-maligned ‘inspirational quote’ memes of deepisms.

Yet apply this – and many, many more of his widely reported words alongside – to your sales career, your current bids and your personal endeavours and you surely won’t go far wrong.

After all, his favourite point to get across appears to be, “we live in a universe governed by rational laws”. For the cosmos, read Sales Patch. And to the stars we can go.
