Makeshift Captain's Studio

I was taken with London broadsheet The Times having their photographers choose favourite 'unseen' shots from Euro 24.

The above treatments were for their sport section cover on the day of the Final. Featuring England captain and record goalscorer Harry Kane. Ultimately falling short to victorious Spain.

I first note with relief to see that even the pros brighten their pics.

This cover shot of him wearing his match shirt was chosen from what appears to be a proof sheet of eighteen. Taken in time quickly grabbed, lasting just one minute fifty-eight seconds.

Of even more relevance to us, is the behind-the-curtain reveal.

This was the makeshift studio. Fashioned at literally a moment's notice. As original planned space of newspaper briefing room suddenly became taken.

Forced to find somewhere else, the snapper rushed into the only spot available. The media centre kitchen. Oh the glamour.

There's plenty to take to our own video call set-up and backgrounds here.

The three assembled lamps, and their angles. The kit on the 'desk'. The St George Cross flag for backdrop.

Notice too how the chosen portrait is not face-on. That lovely, subtle, natural tilt, à la Rembrandt and Van Gogh.

And you don't need a vast helping of space to make things work too.
