Comm Box Olympic Scribbles

Here's a sprightly duo of English tv sport commentators.

On the basis that you should never describe what the viewers see, but how they could see it, they're top of their game. Albeit whilst heeding that [one of the all-time greats] Richie Benaud creed, they eschew his guidance when on occasion silence can make things even better.

This snapshot is in aftermath of a truly awesome victory at Milano-Cortina for Team GB. The nation's first ever at any Winter Games on the snow. All previous Golds being on the ice. The mixed relay snowboard cross event was sensational in its own right. Yet here let's check their zoomscape.

Having live cams on the commentators shouldn't really fly. We are though in an age of journalism-free partisanship. At best, their ilk being asked for instant knowledgeable editorialising, at worst though outright jingoism takes hold.

This pair are justifiably popular. Whether they've decorated their Livigno commentary box here in curated fashion or not, it does offer good ideas for our own such space.

Each wall adorned with sheets of paper. A photo here, logo there, with smattering of flags. The rest, hand-drawn little marvels. Lovin' also by the way both sides have a gold medal hanging. Stage-right;

Mostly meaningless to the viewer. One though was referenced in this segment.

That Venn diagram. Stage-left:

A little digging, it may (or not) be for what's 'sick' and 'devo'. To those unfamiliar with slope-speak, that's amazing or devastating. Their intersection being for things both-in-one.

'It's not a serious analytical diagram (like stats or athlete comparisons) but a light-hearted, self-referential decoration that fits their playful, meme-y vibe—likely drawn by them or a producer to capture the essence of their banter-filled broadcasts.'

A Venn might be dismissed by the Consultant class. Yet as any junior schooler knows, they are quick, simple and easy to get grasp of.

In our hands, they're a lovely tool to draw on the fly to start a point or discussion.

I often have one to hand in this very fashion. Where I know two separate categories are going to come up which can be combined for glory. Even displayed around me at times.

Can you do the same?
