Sales Innovation Enabled

I recently saw a BBC interview with the head of global drug colossus, GSK. Andrew Witty was waxing on innovation. A key driver of their continued success, he was understandably keen to ensure it carried on taking place. He stated that;

all the discoveries take place on the borders of functions

and gave one easy to understand example;

the IT guy sitting next to test tube guy, and so on

To him, making innovation happen is

all about multi-disciplinary combinations

So naturally, I got to thinking whether this view from a worldwide renowned innovator held true for Sales.

And I think it does.

Where does Sales innovate? Mostly when it’s talking to customers, deliverers, servicers? If so, then why do we so often dwell together for so long in the comfort of our own cube zone?
