Selling Alimentation

So I watched the British documentary with unprecedented access to the Salvadoran mega-prison.

The imagery was indeed astonishing.

The sole inmate allowed to be interviewed by the way - named Psycho no less - was candid, resigned, remarkable.

As was its conclusion. On balance, the lives of the honest, hardworking many outweigh those of the psychotic ruthless murdering gang members holed up within.

Despite the 24/7 bright lights, life-means-life and 'punishment on a plate' meals.

And it was with this latter revelation I learned a new word.

At mealtime, the delivery of tortilla, beans and rice was tasted and declared "edible".

The guards referred to alimentation. Describing nourishment being provided.

One of the wonderful times you discover a word ending -tion due to them being the same, if with wildly varying levels of usage, across English, Italian, French and as here, Spanish.

It seems the french use it most commonly. In describing food.

But in English we've other contexts.

As well as 'the intake of food, water, and nutrients necessary to sustain life, growth, and energy', there's the fields of medicine, power supply, glaciology and legally obliged financial support (from which I sense we get the word alimony).

In each case though, there's the concept of a feed of fuel or vital material.

And so it is in Sales.

We need the constant flow of opportunities into our funnel, for instance.

I asked the glaring question, is there a verb 'aliment'?

Yes, "aliment" is a valid English verb, though it is rare and formal. It comes from the Latin word alimentum (meaning nourishment or food). To aliment means to supply with baseline sustenance, food, or maintenance.

With this underscore;

Metaphorical Context:
In rare business or academic writing, it means to physically fuel, feed, or keep a system running.

Sounds ripe for our pipeline thinking.

And hopefully that little bit less rarer now I use it here.
