Six Fingers Mirror Video Call Reminder

"I can't decide whether it's flattering or not, but it's certainly an engaging photograph" - Cressida Wetton, reviewing tomorrow's papers on Headliners

I awoke in the country of my birth to hear of a remarkable parliamentary by-election result.

It was the margin of selection that so struck.

Six votes.

The most slender of wins.

Roughly one-in-two-thousandth of the first-past-the-post vote tally. Meaning basically that if just three people had transferred their vote, the difference would have vanished and outcome reversed.

As you can see up-top, that widely shared image shows the leader of the winning party in the small hours at the (re)count showing his own amazement at the gap.

He's been a highly seasoned campaigner. Much experienced elected representative. And surprisingly fair, authentic and watchable current affairs tv host. Latterly, so the media bubble watchers say, an effective TikTok presence.

Yet despite all that, can be forgiven in such moment for forgetting the view those who see from the other side of the lens will see of him here.

We likely won't have that middle-of-the-night luxury.

I am always advising salespeople to use hand signals and gestures to help let points land. No need for jazz hands. I've loads from which to choose. And be distinctive beyond your competition.

Who would not note the '6' after seeing the above?

To be even better, to truly stand out, we must switch our hands around.

Project backwards to move forwards.

We read numbers left-to-right. So in this case, the right hand should be the full five, the left the single extra digit.

Then when we prevail, we won't be too bothered about our decisive lead either.
